The Digest

Betty (Renee Zellweger) has spent all of her life in Kansas. She married a local car dealer, works at the local diner, and went to the local high school... you get the picture. Her dream is to become a nurse, but that dream was squashed by her philandering jerk of a husband, Dell (Aaron Eckhart). Betty doesn't hold a grudge. She just goes through life working and religiously watching her favorite soap opera, "A Reason to Love" starring the man of her dreams, Dr. David Ravell as portrayed by George McCord (Greg Kinnear). As far as Betty is concerned, all is right with the world as long as she can watch her soap.

One night when her husband thinks that she's gone out he brings home to men to discuss some shady business. Betty doesn't care what they're talking about as long as she can watch her soap. She turns up the sound on the t.v. and drowns out the conversation. Eventually she hears some rough-housing going on and peeks outside. What she sees is her husbands business associates kill him. This is too much for her. She shuts the door and turns back to the soap and her mind immediately checks out.

From that moment on, Betty mixes reality and fiction. She believes that Dr. Ravell really does exist and that she is his former fiancee. She decides to leave her husband (whose death she has blocked out her mind) and go find Dr. David and make everything right.

What follows is her hilarious trip to Los Angeles. What she doesn't know and what her husband didn't know was that the car she is driving, one she borrowed from his lot, is actually a stolen car with dope in it. So now the men who killed her husband, Charlie (Morgan Freeman) and Wesley (Chris Rock) are following her.

The Dish

This was a very good movie. I don't care for Chris Rock at all, but I have to tell you that he, along with Allison Janney and Tia Texada, made this movie for me. Chris cracked me up. "I'll kill that bitch like she scratched my car" see now that is a horrible statement, but coming out his mouth? I was on the floor. It seems like everyone around him is crazy and he knows it. He feels like he is the only sane one and it drives *him* crazy. I spent the entire movie laughing at him.

Morgan Freeman really surprised me. I don't think I've ever seen him in a comedy or with a potty mouth for that matter. It was refreshing. He took his job as a hitman *very* seriously. As if he was working a regular 9-5 job. That in itself was enough to make me giggle.

All of the supporting players were wonderful. I think this was the perfect cast for this movie. Anyone else and it would have been off-kilter.

The one thing I had a little trouble dealing with was the blind obsession they all had over Betty. She was very sweet and there wasn't a mean bone in her body, but it bothered me that even Charlie had to have her, BUT I got over and I'm glad I did.

The Directive

Great date movie. Check it out.

Very funny. Very unique. Much needed after the crap I've seen this summer.
