Email...we get email...lots of it. And though we appreciate (and respond to) all of it, some of the feedback we get on our reviews is particularly thought-provoking, and deserves a wide audience. To that end, we've included links to some of our favorite reader comments at the bottom of some of our 3BC reviews, where applicable. Be sure to check out the 3BC Movie Reviews archives for a list of reviews that include reader commentary.

Reader Feedback - by John Greenwald
(WARNING: potential spoilers below)

You should see the first Fantasia. It would make you forget Fantasia 2000.

Since then I have become convinced that animation is where the future of cinematic art (as opposed to "mere" story-telling) lies. As soon as filmmakers' put actors in front of their cameras' lenses, they are limiting their possibilities. With animation, especially now that animators can mix stop-action, hand-drawn and computer art, the limits are only the filmmakers' imaginations. Yes, that sounds like a cliche, but it's true.

In that context, Fantasia 2000 disappoints, disappoints greatly. The new pieces, with the exception of the pink flamingo dance, have none of the visual beauty, imagination or wit of the original. Two are of sequences are *badly drawn,* the Firebird (she resembles a high school kid's doodling and the Donald Duck one (such lame looking animals).

Since your review suggests you haven't seen Fantasia, see it so you know what good is. Also, if you love animation, I recommend the shorts by John and Faith Hubley (they're on video), especially John Hubley's Windy Day.

[Bams' response: Though I disagree in part that Fantasia 2000 was disappointing - the Firebird being one of my favorite sequences (though I do admit that it struck me strangely at first) - I do want to see the original version. Now if Disney'd only release it on DVD...]
