From Sony Pictures Classics comes the critically acclaimed film Friends With Money, a witty and uplifting comedy about the power of friendship between four women and the divisions that class and money create. Starring Jennifer Aniston (The Break Up, Rumor Has It), Oscar-winner Frances McDormand (Something’s Gotta Give, Laurel Canyon), Joan Cusack (Raising Helen, The School of Rock) and Oscar nominee Catherine Keener (Capote, The 40 Year Old Virgin), Friends With Money will be available from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on August 29, 2006.
Directed by Nicole Holofcener (Lovely & Amazing, Walking and Talking) and winner of the Best Picture award at the 2006 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, Friends With Money received high critical praise including Vanity Fair (Bruce Handy) lauding the film as “A female Big Chill for Generation X… funny, well-observed” and the New York Post exclaiming “Acutely funny! Briskly paces, smartly written! Aniston’s best performance since The Good Girl.”
Synopsis
A poignant snapshot of the way we live today, Friends With Money examines the shifting relationships between four women who have been friends all of their adult lives. The three “friends with money,” Frannie (Cusack), Jane (McDormand), and Christine (Keener), share a concern for Olivia (Aniston) who seems unable to make a living or sustain a relationship at least by their standards. Their group examination of her lack of options magnifies each of their own doubts and concerns about the marriages and careers to which they have committed themselves. Olivia, meanwhile, drifts through each of her friends’ lives, at times avoiding the issue of money altogether, and at other times accepting her friends’ painful generosity. Ultimately, Olivia will find satisfaction and stability from an unexpected place, but her own somewhat happy ending is muted by the harsh reality of the suddenly disassembled lives of her best friends.
