The Digest

Selena (Kate Beckinsale) is a warrior and more importantly, she's a vampire who hunts werewolves. The Lycans (which is what werewolves are really called) and the Vampires have been involved in bloody feud that has lasted about 600 years. No one knows exactly when it started or why, only that that's the way things are.

And while the feud has always been a constant, some things have changed. Like the fact that the moon is no longer required as Lycan can will themselves to change. They've also managed to create weapons that can kill vampires. This is troubling to the warriors because it reminds of them of the time when The great Lycan, Lucian, the one who almost destroyed them all and won the war.

But this is impossible because the great Lucian was killed by the current leader of the Vampires, Kraven (Shane Brolly) and the werewolves were hunted to the brink of extinction. But something is going on that has the werewolves acting bold. They've also become fixated on anyone with the last name of Corvin, including Michael Corvin a young American doctor now working abroad.

Selena finds herself attracted to him ,but he is human and the Lycan's want him, to further complicate matters he ends up being bitten by a Lycan and will turn into one. She is conflicted by her attraction to him; 600 years of being a sworn enemy of the Lycan's; and needing to find out why they want him.

She's digging for the truth, but it is a truth she doesn't want to know.

The Dish

You know, never have I been so disappointed by so many movies. I've found myself doing cartwheels if the movie doesn't completely suck. This is one of those cases. Any other time something this mediocre would have been ripped to shreds by me, but in light of what can be held up as comparisons, this movie was a flippin' masterpiece.

The story moves at a snails space and while some of the special effects were awesome, others, my 5 year-old niece could have done better. And I can't even begin to discuss the acting. I know this much I was hoping that The Mummy or Frankenstein would show up and do damage to the whole lot of them. Between that and the hard to understand plot point about purebreds was really enough to make me a scream - especially given that throughout the movie you catch glimpse of how good it could have been.

That said, it still didn't suck as much as most of what has been released so far.

The Directive
