The Digest
Cindy (Anna Farris) is out of college and a television journalist. She is raising her nephew and life is good until she here about this tape that kills you 7 days after you watch it. She is also investigating some mysterious crop circles that are showing up in Father Tom's cornfield.
Cindy, with the help of Tom's wannabe rapper brother, George (Simon Rex), is determined to figure out what's going on. The stakes are higher now that her nephew has watched the tape and her best friend Brenda (Regina Hall) has died as a result of viewing it.
Can Cindy save her nephew? Can George save his family and become the most celebrated white rapper in the country?
The Dish
God I hate this franchise. At least this time I didn't feel the need to shower afterwards. The Wayan brothers are noticeably absent and with that absence gone is the R rating and the disgusting sex jokes. However even this doesn't save the movie from itself. I hate to be so unsophisticated, but this movie was just plain dumb. I never giggled, let alone laughed. I spent 90 minutes staring at the screen and my watch. Even for a parody there was just too much going on and no the end result was a lack of cohesion. This movie was just a jumbled mess.
I was unimpressed almost to point of disgust with Queen Latifah's turn as a very ghetto Oracle. I was disgusted with Anthony Anderson's take on George promoter.
I'm hoping that this movie fails at the box office so we can be done with the Scary Movie franchise for good.
The Directive
I don't know what to say. I've made it clear that I hate these movies, yet they keep getting the last laugh at the box office. Personally, I wouldn't bother with this one either. It's painfully unfunny.
And for the third time I say, "What's scary is that this movie was made."
