The Digest
The Federation is feeling a tad bit comfortable. The Romulans haven't been up to their nasty tricks so there isn't any war presently being fought. Because of this momentary peace it seems like as good enough a time as any for Commander William T. Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) to tie the knot. After the festivities have been celebrated In Riker's home state of Alaska, the crew of the enterprise must now go to Troi's home planet.
Along the way to Troi's planet, several things happen. They are hailed by Adm.Janway who informs them that the new leader of the Romulan and Remans wants to make peace with the Federation. Capt. Picard (Patrick Stuart) has been requested to meet with him and see if it is a legitimate offer. The Enterprise also picks up some energy signals from the Kolarus system - energy signals that indicate that several androids are in the system. After going down to the planet to investigate, they come face to face with a clone of Data (Brent Spiner) only this clone is an earlier model and a bit primitive.
Once back on the ship, it is now time for Capt Picard to meet with the man that would offer peace, Praetor Shinzon (Tom Hardy)
Once Capt. Picard and a few of crewmembers transport over to Shinzon's council room, they are met with a vision of an early version of Capt. Picard. It seems that the Romulans once cloned Picard in hopes of killing the real one and replacing him. Shizon appears to be upfront and honest about the situation, but Picard isn't convinced. Something just isn't right, but no one can put their finger on it. And Picard is right to be cautious. Everything isn't as it seems. Shinzon want to destroy Earth and only the crew of The Enterprise can stop him, if he doesn't kill them all first.
The Dish
Good God this was 2 hours of ridiculousness. Even for me - Ms. "I Love Movie Cheese" Larsuel. This folks is a problem. I will usually green light anything that keeps my mind devoid of thought because of all of the special effects have me mesmerized and drooling. Not this time, no siree, Bob. I'm not sure there are enough effects in the world to make me forget that insipid plot and vapid acting.
Nothing within this movie made me want to see Earthlings win. I kinda hoped they'd killed each other off so we could start fresh. I spent half my time muttering, "Yeah. Right. Whatever"
The only thing that would make me feel like I hadn't wasted 2 worthy hours of my life, is if this is the absolute last Star Trek movie. It has to be, folks. The franchise has run it's course (It was over for me after I sat through that damn whale one about 16 years ago). Beyond that, it's insulting to the fans of the series. They are telling fans that they can make any ole crappy Start Trek movie and it doesn't matter because y'all will show up anyway. They have no respect for their fan base if they are going to count on you to blindly pay to see whatever they present to the public, no matter how bad it is. I say let this be enough! Don't give them a reason to lodge another turd at the movie screen.
Star Trek fans; stand up for your rights!
